For the second year in a row, the Lviv Polytechnic University Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology Department of Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology has organized the annual Ukrainian Student Biotechnology and Bioengineering Competition.
This year 62 students from 23 universities across Ukraine submitted 48 projects in the following categories:
- Industrial, food and agricultural biotechnology
- Biomedicine and pharmaceutical biotechnology and bioengineering
- Molecular biotechnology and bioinformatics
- Environmental biotechnology and bioenergy
Unfortunately, due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, the second round of the competition involving presentations by the students could not be held and the winners were selected based on the scores from round 1. Two first and second place winners and two third places winners were selected in each category.
Each of the winners received gift certificates from the US-Ukraine Foundation Biotech Initiative. This year we also presented gift certificates to the winning students' supervisors and the organizers at Lviv Polytechnic University to show our gratitude for mentoring and supporting the next generation of biotech researchers in Ukraine.
